The 2026 price landscape
Live answering services (Smith.ai, AnswerConnect, and similar) start around $95-$300 per month for a small bundle of calls or minutes, with overages commonly $1.50-$3 per minute. A busy season can double the bill. Software-only answering tools (GoodCall and similar) run about $65-$250 per month and don't meter as aggressively, but hand you intake rather than outcomes.
- Live service, small bundle: $95-$300+/month, per-minute overages
- Software-only answering: $65-$250/month, flat-ish
- Hybrid software + human escalation: $95-$300+/month, per-call economics
- Robinline (answers, quotes, books, collects): from $599/month flat
The number that matters: cost per booked job
Every option above except one ends the same way: with a message. Someone still quotes the clean, checks the calendar, sends the booking link, and chases the thread. Price that labor in and the "cheap" $95 service costs $95 plus your evenings.
Measure cost per booked job instead. If a service answers 60 calls a month and 5 become jobs because callbacks were slow, you paid $60 per booking before labor. A system that answers in 15 seconds with a real price converts a much larger share of the same calls - which is why owners see up to 5× more leads become jobs when reply time collapses.
Questions to ask any provider
Before signing: Does it quote my actual prices or read a script? Does it book into my real calendar or send a link? What happens to texts and web forms? What does minute 201 cost? And the one that sorts the whole market - when the call ends, do I have a message or a booked job?
